Williams Lake Stampede postcard 1984 collector's edition, The Original Postercard

Limited quantities of The Original Postercard series for 1983-90 were produced.

The story behind the postercards

When James Allan and Anna Krause worked for the Cariboo-Chilcotin school district in Williams Lake, they could not help notice how much the locals loved their stampede posters. Being from a tourism background and mindset caused them to suggest they make postcards from these. The response was, “who buys postcards?”

The challenge was on. The Original Postercards, miniaturized versions of posters designed and illustrated by well-known artist Brent Lynch, were printed in response. and sold 17,000 in the city with a population of 10,000. In the first 3 weeks of sales, they sold 17,000 in a city with a population of 10,000 to retailers at a dollar each.

Specially sized anti-glare frameless frames were custom made to fit the cards and imported from Germany. They also sold quickly for $8 each. Point proven, soon after the pair sold most of the inventory back to the local rodeo association at cost prior to continuing their education in Europe.
