Travel through time with Wetion. Based on the book by the same name, Wetion highlights communication’s role in survival and the evolution of writing is a part of this theme. Its 10 scenes recall the important moments worth remembering over 2,000 generations…the legends, passion, humor, laws, codes and cures. And the scenes are staged in regions where much history was written - East Africa, Egypt, the Middle East, European regional hubs, and North American centers.
"Oh Belly Dancer" is the first of two songs from scene 3. Almost 1,800 generations come and go before the next scene. The setting for Scene 03 is a large mansion on the Nile, Egypt, close to where Memphis was being planned [3,100 BCE]. Atum and Nassor are clearly pampered young males with time on their hands. A scribe has Atum’s attention and more.
Oh Belly Dancer
Moonlight awakens
Egyptian nights
Red Sea shimmers
In summer light
Floods wash cradles
Into sight
Pharaohs, lions
Reflecting might
Pyramids, steps
To give rise
The privileged few
The afterlife
Golden treasures
Vanity hopes
Kept from people
Who need it most
Oh belly dancer
I’m mesmerized
Passion within me
Tantalize
Cleo and Mark
Characters glow
Live forever
Wheatfields grow
Near the oasis
Sand does blow
Still of the Nile
Crocodiles roam
Minstrels, minnesingers
Storytell
Rhythm of the lyre
Dancer’s bells
What was then
Is still felt
Umbilical flow
Wishing wells
Oh belly dancer
Aladdin’s light
No resistance
Smoke does rise
Say my name
Return to life
Fields of reeds
A favorite wife
To the stars
Taught to sing
Ra has created
Everything
Time is measured
So to know
When to dance
When to sow
Marked by floods
Bounties bring
Dry times follow
Famine stings
Oh belly dancer
I’m mesmerized
Passion within me
Tantalize
Oh belly dancer
Aladdin’s light
No resistance
Smoke does rise
Oh belly dancer
Veiled disguise
Radiates
What’s inside
(Sound of bells continues and then fades out)
